A wrong-way driver led to a three car accident injuring at least two people yesterday afternoon. The wrong way driver was attempting to flee from New Haven Police officers when he crashed his vehicle into the other two cars. As you may have had the displeasure of learning yesterday, the crash on Interstate 95 at the beginning of rush hours caused severe delays.
According to local news reports in an attempt to get away from the police the driver entered the southbound lanes of I-95 while heading north, against traffic. The wrong-way driver crashed into two different vehicles before the car he was driving caught fire, at which point he attempted to escape on foot, he was apprehended a short time later.
The drivers of the other two cars that were struck in the incident were both injured. One driver sustained injuries to his shoulder while the other driver was reported to have some more serious injuries, though neither of the drivers' injuries was described as life threatening.
While we all do our best to practice defensive driving, to ensure that our tires are not too worn down, and that our blind spots are clear before we change lanes, all this caution is of little service when other reckless driver decides to attempt to elude police by speeding up the wrong way on the interstate.
